The K5 looks incredible inside considering how much it costs. The design is simple yet elegant, and the interior of the cabin is decorated with beautiful materials like wood trim on the doors and dash. A number of high-end interior options are also available in the K5, including a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, heated and ventilated front seats, and ambient interior lighting on the dash and doors. The comfy location for your left foot and the floor-hinged accelerator are welcome details, even though the driver’s seat seems high even when it is adjusted to its lowest position. Large legroom is also available in the back seat, and the trunk has plenty of capacity for luggage. Seven carry-on suitcases fit back there, which is impressive.

The redesigned Kia Optima has a dynamic exterior with significant contouring around its bumper, grille, and rear spoilers. A 180-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automated transmission powers the majority of K5 variants. Front-wheel drive is the engine’s default setting; an all-wheel drive is an option, but only on the GT-Line. The 180-hp, front-drive K5 we were driving had good acceleration in town, and our testing showed a 7.0-second sprint to 60 mph. At highway speeds, though, it was less spectacular because passing took more time.
